Inspiration for the week - Change your paradigm

There are a few moments before the darkness of night gives way to the first glimpse of morning that I particularly love. It's a magical time really, when you can actually witness the world around you changing. The stars tuck themselves into the heavens until the next nightfall while the first slivers of sunlight peek over the horizon.

There’s a palpable silence that allows me to drift into my morning prayers until I am completely immersed in them. I’ve come to cherish this time of solitude and prayer though it wasn’t always so. But, life has a way of tossing roadblocks into our pathways forcing us to either butt our heads against an obvious wall or accept the challenge of shifting our paradigm.

Most of my life, I’ve been a night owl, definitely not a morning person. “I don’t do mornings, I do coffee” was my more than a quip on my nightshirt. It was a statement of fact. When my sleep patterns began a dramatic shift about 2 years ago, I spent many frustrating nights and mornings desperately bucking the routine my body had fallen in to; exhausted by 8 - 9PM, awake between 2 - 3 AM. The Fibromyalgia I’d been diagnosed with a few months prior had now invaded my life on a level I wasn’t anticipating. I was undeniably at a roadblock. I could either continue the frustration of fighting my body, clearly an exercise in futility, or I could change my paradigm and begin looking at the dark hours of the morning in a new light. I chose the latter.

I now spend the wee hours of the morning working on my website, adding new products, researching new vendors and wading through the mountain of e-mails that accumulate overnight. I also take time to step outside, into the peace and solitude of a new morning not yet dawned, and embrace the opportunity to communicate with God. And, if I am lucky, I witness those magical moments when the sun begins to smile on a brand new day.

"...where morning dawns and evening fades you call forth songs of joy."
Psalm 65:8

  1. Here's to a woman who surprises me more every day. Mom, you've done an amazing job creating inspirationalgiftsanddecor.com
You're words have been nothing short of a blessing to countless people over the years. To this day I still have old friends from high school who ask how you're doing. Every one of my friends was treated as your own child before you even knew their names and in turn, they loved and respected you as their own mother. You didn't love who you chose. You chose to love every person God brought across your path. Bringing homemade Christmas cookies and groceries to a poor, elderly man you never had a conversation with. Only exchanging friendly waves as you drove Jason to school. You're daily actions over the years are engraved into my mind and heart. The thought of you alone is an inspiration in itself. You taught us all how to love without cause and how to give selflessly. Now you've found a way to extend your blessings to the public at large. I am undescribably proud to tell people what an incredible person my mother is. This all goes as well for you dad. You both did everything possible to make me a man of God. I love you both.
